Prduct: Purple Up Question?

is anyone using this product to boost their calcium?

have you heard any Pro's or Con's of this stuff?

K~`

I think it is more for Mg... look up Randy's two part. Its much cheaper in the long run (a bit more expensive up front, but you get enough to last at least a year).

Otherwise, I hear that people who use it have good results. But it is hard to tell if it is realy needed or do you need to adjust other levels (ca, alk, mg).

i use it and i like it.
when i was first getting my coraline going this seemed to put it into overdrive.
i dose like 1/4 the recommended amount.
my calcium levels are good.

I think Dr. Randy determined it would have little effect. Proper calcium, alkalinity and magnesium will grow coraline if your phosphates and nitrates are in check. In short, proper water quality and a small seeding will grow it. Mine has been out of control for a couple of years and I have never dosed any product for coraline growth. I scrape it off the glass every dew days....want some?

The form of calcium is essentially unavailable for calcium use by our aquariums unless you have very low pH problems. i.e. close to 7.0. Save your money. There is some Iodine or Iodate in it but other than that it's snake oil.

Well you are the chemist in this group so I'd go with what you think.

I've used it in the past and have a bottle of it now. Does it work?? LOL I don't really know. I've never dosed just it. When I dose, I dose everthing I want that day. I haven't dosed it in about 2 months now and I can't tell if it had done anything or not. I got the big bottle given to me or I wouldn't have it. But thats JMHO. I also dose pickling lime so maybe thats why I can't tell?? I dunno.

Roy reads RHF religiously... if they say snake oil, then it is snake oil.

I gorw some good coraline as well. New rocks are looking good. Never used anything but the two part in the tank.

Yes I would agree, Roy is the guy I ask the Chemical questions. He seems to be quite Knowledgeable in the field so I trust him if he says it don't work.

My head is getting too big for my neck to support! I need a Chiropractor!

Thanks guys.
