Found why I could not get it to work

I assume that you mean you have UAC off (so that you do not get prompted for administration elevation. What part of the gadget does not work with UAC off?

None of it works, says fails to initialize. But as soon as I turn on UAC it works

WOOHOO!!! you just figured out why mine setup doesn't work.

In a Virtual Session (MS Virtual PC 2007) the gadget works, but in my home desktop Vista is wouldn't. That the difference, at home UAC is turned off. Turn UAC on at home and it started working. No more failed Initialization screen.

Fixed mine too.....

Similar thing here: the gadget is initialised (no error message) and shows a black background without any values. I turned on the UAC, rebooted and the gadget was running fine and the values (pH, ORP, status, etc) were shown and updated. Then I turned off the UAC, rebooted and the problem appreared again. Ken is this a Vista problem?

The UAC issue was (reported to be) fixed in Vista SP1; I've never seen the problem but I always keep UAC on. I'll need to investigate more to see if I can get it working with UAC off.

If you go to the gadget folder and create a file named debug.txt, then run the gadget does any errors get logged?

Yes these are the errors I get:

Hmm, something is blocking the gadget from creating the COM object I use for parsing and log management...

You have UAC off; correct (but it works if you turn it on)?

Do you have Vista SP1 installed? .NET Version? What version of Vista?

I use Vista Utlimate. I have not upgraded yet to SP1. My .net Framework version is 3.5 SP1.

Yes I confirm that when I switch on the UAC the gadget works fine but not when it is off. I keep it off because some old applications I use do not work if it is on...

I have just upgraded to SP1 and the problem has been resolved. Obviously there is an incompatibility issue with Vista first release.

I just installed this gadget on a Vista 64bit operating system at home.

I get the following message in the gadget window:

"The underlying connection was closed. The connection was closed unexpectedly."

When I click on the gadget it takes me to the web page that shows me the controller page correctly.

Any suggestions on how to get it working.

AC3 or Apex? What firmware version and which gadget version (middle of the page or bottom); there are 2?

AC3, firmware 3.3. I tried updating to 3.4 firmware but the ac3loader is not working in vista 64 bit.

I think I downloaded the gadget from the middle of the page.

The (newer) gadget in middle of the page REQUIRES 3.4 firmware and that might be the cause of your error.

The link at the bottom of the page is for pre-3.4 firmware.

In order to uninstall you will need to shut down the sidebar process, then delete the AC3 gadget (C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets). Then you will be able to install the new gadget.

OK.. that explains it. I was finally able to get the loader to work for the 3.4 version, by disabling all UAC control, and now your gadget works fine. Thanks a lot.

sanjay.

Although, the gadget will not work when I re enable UAC. It requires that the UAC be turned off.

The UAC issue was fixed in SP1 (for Vista); are you running any SP?
