Should the water overflow the dam or I guess the name would be weir or is the flow determined by the slots in the dam / weir ? I have the dischrge of my pump throttled down to keep it from going over the top . Is this right or wrong or dose it really matter ? Thanks for the help .

IT should go through the slots, that being said, I have overflows without any slots on a few tanks. SO as long as the drain line can handle the flow, and it is not so close to the top of the tank that it makes you uncomfortable it is fine. You may have more trouble with fish/snails going over the overflow, but you are going to have that anyway.

your stand pipe is to high ...cant frain fast enough...what kind of stand pipe are you using look like you dont have the stock pipe in there so what is diff?? looks like your water level is to high in the overflow section should be 4 to 6 in below plastic

my eyes must be bad, i cant see the water level, I mean maybe its there, but im not that old man!

The water level in the weir is down about 2 inches if I go lower it sounds like a water fall when it goes through the grates . Your looking at a cap on top of a T and there is a 90 turned down .
