current tank 46g bow-front mixed reef
would like to finally add a sump to the setup...since the tank is not drilled i would like some advice on adding an prefilter overflow.. what kind do you suggest and what size would i need? something in the 600gph range? or would that be too much?
If you could pair a return pump that would be welcome advice...thanks

I would use a CS90 overflow and a mag 9.5... just be sure to put a gate valve on it to dial the flow back.

I have my old overflow box down in my basement, if you are thinking about buying used. I used to use a mag 9.5 as my return pump.

What kind of overflow do you have? I might be interested....plus picking it up would be a great excuse to visit the yuengling factory since it seems your close to pottstown:beer:

I run a CPR overflow with a 20 gallon long sump on my son's 40 gallon Breeder. The return is a mag 5 dialed backed a bit. The overflow handles about 300-350 GPH. You have to run a small air lifter pump to ensure the siphon is never broken if the electricity goes out. I got mine at Something Fishy for $99. For a 46 gallon Bowfront 600GPH is a bit much unless you are running a larger sump.

Yuengling is in Pottsville.

Make sure you get a aualifter pump to keep the siphon if air should get in the C channel.

I have used (in very good shape) CPR style overflow that is available also . It is rated for 600 gal w/1 in. bulkhead and 1in. pvc union attached.

I have two. One is the cpr style single piece with the channel and the hookup at the top for the aqualifter pump. The second is an adjustable two piece unit that uses u tubes to move the water from the inner box to the external box. Both have two one inch outlets and can handle plenty of flow. I ran a mag 9.5 and used the u tube style box on my tank for a long time with no issues.
