ok, so how do you guys count your rotifers. I've seen the specific gravity meter with a circle drawn in it, a stream of rotifer culture on a white piece of paper, microscope with slide, Trying to count the rotifers in 1 ML of water. What's the deal. That's what I have listed in my books. None of these seems very easy.

I don't count Rotifers and don't off hand know of anyone who does. the only thing I can say is you will get the "feel" for how many are Ina good culture. What you want is the rotifers in the fry tank as many so the fry do not have to swim more then one fry length before running into a rotifer.

I know you have your swivel already but I would it the paper filters in a plastic coffee filter holder. Worked good but is no where near as convient as the seive. There are some really good air pumps on eBay cheap that come with good air manifolds little loud but very dependable. I myself have a 20$ one from petco that has 4 air manifolds built in and a valve to adjust the air flow.

They have been actively spawning every 12 days or so. My rotifers crashed. The sieve I bought just isn't economical. I can't sit there for hours trying to filter out rotifers. It just seems like it might be getting "Clogged". It's a 54 micron sieve which seems to be standard. It's only a 2 inch PVC that its in. Any ideas?

I need to start up those rotifers again because I'll have some hatchlings soon.

I also bought a metal rack from Lowes that I plan to setup.

How are the first batch of fry doing? Did they make it past the initial phase?

A good tip to keep strong healthy rots is to try to keep the temps down on the cultures mine stay below 70 . I keep mine in the basement where the air temps are more stable. Also not sure if you use any ammonia detox but I add some to my cultures each day. If you need some rots I could mail a cup full of them to you.

I might need that. I feel like I totally killed my first set of rots.
