Pressure Pump Issue???

Old pump failed and I had an extra amp 3000 laying around, so I hooked it up. Problem is the tank is a 125 AGA with new mega-flows, but the drains cannot keep up with the pump. I added a 1.5" ball valve to the intake and closed it maybe 15% (very little). Will this have any long term effect on the amp 3000? Any advice would be helpful.

Yes, this can cause the motor to run too hot.
Put the ball valve on the pumps output and you will be ok.
