prevelance of flukes in aquaria

So i have been doing alot of research since i am currently treating my tank for flukes, and it seems as though there has been a recent trend in many marine fish coming into our LFS's with flukes. Just curious as to what may be causing this trend (if it is a trend) and why these parasites are making it into our home aquariums. I was under the impression that fish suppliers treat their tanks with copper and other medications in order to alleviate some of those issues before they make it back to the consumer.
Thanks.

The only ones I know who (sorta) treat for flukes is LA Diver's Den. I believe they soak fish food in praziquantel. Whether or not that will completely clear a fish of flukes is questionable IMHO.

Some LFS and wholesalers run therapeutic copper in their fish systems, but most fish are not exposed to it for long enough to eradicate external parasites. And copper doesn't treat flukes.

Informally (subjective information based on participation in this area for quite a while) I would rank the incidence level:

1. Flukes
2. Cryptocaryon Irritans (although many reports are actually velvet)
3. Velvet
4. Uronema/Brook (so similar it is difficult to differentiate without detailed pictures)

Also, subjectively, I seem to be seeing all of these occurring more frequently.

Agree with all of the above. Up to last year I had never had to deal with them. Then nearly every fish I bought had them. And velvet wiped out all of my fish 16 months ago. I initially thought it was ich. Then last year brook came in through a sea urchin. Prior to all that no problems.
Copper will not eradicate flukes just knock them back a little.
