Preventative medication and QT talk

Ok so basic preventative QT treatment should be the following done at normal salinity...

4 weeks of QS or CP
2 one week treatments Prazi
1 week of observation

Sound about right?

Also would there be and changes to the above for different fish? AKA angles, anthias, wrasses?

And since I cant use the matrix since it will remove the medication, what do you recommend as far as water changes and redosing go?

Well now Im a bit mad. I just got home to find a blue side wrasse and cleaner wrasse dead and a flame hawk on its side twitching.

I had these fish for 3 weeks before adding the quinine, 3 days later this....

I moved the flame hawk to another tank with no QS so we will see if he makes it.

IMO QS or other drugs that is degraded by UV does not have much routine application against ich.

This is because usually one has to consider the risk of bacterial infection during eradication of ich.

IME, the UV does materially reduce the chance of bacterial infection, so any drug against ich that prevents the use of UV is not useful as a routine choice.

What is your setup in regard to nitrification?

Does any of the drugs you are using affect nitrification?

As I said, bacterial infection can also be the cause of rapid death.

I am sorry for your loss. It is very frustrating. What did you use? Quinine Sulfate or Chloroquine Phosphate? I dosed my 20 gallon QT on Tuesday with CP. None of the fish were doing very well afterwards. By Wednesday the Clownfish was laying on his side and not eating. The Hawkfish, Royal Gramma, Blenny and Goby stopped eating, were breathing very hard and just laying around. I did a 1 gallon water water change just trying to give them a little relief without completely undoing the meds. Thursday morning they looked a little better. But by Thursday night the Blenny was laying on top of the power head and not moving. All were breathing very hard. I did a 50% water change and added carbon. Within an hour some were better. By Friday all but the Royal Gramma and Goby are eating and breathing ok. I don't want to condemn CP as this could have been a dosing issue. Although I only dosed 1/2 of what was recommended by Dr. Fishman from who I obtained the CP.

I have 5 gallons of bio balls in the system for filtration. And usually do a 90% water change every 7-10 days when its fully stocked to keep the nitrates down. No other meds were in the system, no carbon, no UV, no skimmer.

I did a full dose of QS which is recommended for 7 days without a water change.

Im not adding fish to this tank without knowing they are clean, but if nothing survives the medication whats the point?
