Just got a quote for a 72x30x24 (225 short) peninsula with external overflow for $1550. Is this reasonable? It is from a reputable manufacture and my LFS is give me a good deal since I give him lots of business and we have a good relationship.

While we are at it, has anyone done a cantilever light arrangement for a peninsula tank? If so can I see some pictures? If this happens I want to keep an open top, but do not want to suspend the lights from my ceiling.

Just checked two of the local stores, 230g 72x30x26 reef ready $745 made by aquarium masters (the company that manufactures for Deep Blue), I wouldn't say that's a terrible price, but it's definitely full retail.

Reef ready standards are going to be cheaper than custom. A 180 from the same company in their standard reef ready configuration is $1000.

The tank I had quoted was euro braced, black drain side and no trim.

Contact miracles aquariums for a quote. They generally quote me a price that day if I call them. I like to see what they charge as they build quality tanks. If the price is over theirs then yes you are being over charged imo.

It doesn't seem out of line, and the fact your are not going to have the plastic support braces makes it worth it. Oh yea and I love that size

Can't go by off-the-shelf prices.

That's a good price for a custom 230g tank.

that price is custom made, options are coast to coast overflow (+0), exterior (+50), center (+0), and dual (+20). You can also get black or clear silicon, and traditional rimmed, or a glass braced top, although I do not know the pricing on that off the top of my head. I only buy custom aquariums, any shop that carries Aquarium Masters tanks can order custom for pretty cheap. I got my 60x24x16 rimless made for $490

Gotcha. That's really cheap.
For comparison, a custom 200g eurobraced tank with 1/2" glass and starphire front and hybrid bottom from Planet will run you around $2k.
Similar cost for a traditional braced tank with overflow from DSA.

Those are very cheap prices. Not sure which companies are giving out those quotes.. But you will never find those quotes from companies such as Miracle, ReefSavvy, Coast to Coast, AGE.

Wow! I got my 60x24x12 rimless planet aquarium for $1150. Miracles quoted me $1300. I wouldn't trust it personally.

Check with aquarium masters, I personally love them, they have always beat the prices of every other manufacturer I have talked to by at least 10-20%. I'll get a picture of one of their 72x24x12 rimless tanks next time I go to the shop for comparisons, the construction quality is great imo, and for the price you really can't beat them. Having said that I do not believe they make Starphire tanks at all, I've never seen one by them. I'd call and see if they have any retailers local to you just to price check
