Prizm, Skilter, or other

I am setting up a ten gallon FOWLR tank, and I'm going to be buying a protein skimmer for it soon. I've been looking at the Prizm, and the skilter filters. Which one would be the best to get? I'm also open to other ideals as well.

Urchin? Will you have a sump? Remora would be about all you would need. I would advise in a 10 you mostly keep the smallest gobies, and in that case, a Remora would be a pretty potent hang-on-back skimmer for you.

for a 10 gallon you can do water changes and scrap the skimmer.

How much weekly? Also, should I be adding anything to the tank if I'm just doing FOWLR besides the water changes ie iodine or calcium or something like that? (I wouldn't mind if there were some kinds of tube worms that tagged along, although a reef tank isn't my goal.)

I think you may also be able to squeeze by without a skimmer, however a skimmer AND water changes can't hurt. Besides a skimmer is better than no skimmer. In a small tank and such a small volume of water, anything that skims anything will only benefit your tank. I've heard a lot of good things about the aquaremora, but I've had luck with the cpr bak pak and the seaclone100. The seaclone100 isn't as bad as people make it out to be IMO. it works for me =)

are the prizm and/or skilter a bad purchase?

I had used Prizm before and am surprised it's still on the market. I would say to get a AquaC hang-on model, Remora.

According to everything I've read...yes they are crap. Get an Aqua C Nano Remora. You will not be disappointed. Quality product and the company provides great customer service.

Those tiny skimmers are not worth wasting $ on. They are too small to do anything. With a small tank like a 10G, water changes will be more effective.

I've used prizms on small tanks, and they aren't that bad. I'm currently using a seaclone on my 20gal at school and its doing great.

ths skilter i loud from what ive heard.

but chances are you are going to upgrade.
i would wait till then and buy a good skimmer. water changes would be more than adequate.

dont confuse a skimmer as a means to add more fish. your still at 2 fish max load and water changes would suffice that.

i had a skilter about 10 years ago when they first came out. they were junk then and the design hasnt changed so i would immagine they still are. the prizm is in the same class, junk.
i agree with the WCs (weekly @ 20%) and no skimmer. :)
