Probe caps

Recently I tried to remove the probe caps off my temp and PH probes to fit them in a new sump holder. The temp cap wouldn't budge and the PH cap started to slide off when I noticed that there was fluid inside, immediately I abandoned my attempt. I assume that this liquid is something that keeps it calibrated. After some measuring, I determined that the probes wouldn't fit in the holes anyway, since they were only .48" in diameter. Is there a way to remove and replace the caps without affecting the functionality?

Man, someone here always has the answer! That's great. I did not know the PH cap had to be removed. I knew I needed to calibrate it, I just haven't ordered the calibration packets yet. Thanks.
