Probe Defective: Updating...

That's all I get when I try to calibrate this probe that I got last friday. I've tried several times with two different calibration fluids. I've waited for up to 30 minutes in each solution and no matter what I do, I get the "probe defective" message.

This is a brand new neptune probe and an AC Jr. that I got last week. If it helps at all, the probe came in and the little cap was probably only 1/3 to 1/2 full. There was a good amount of white crustyness around the edge of the cap where it had leaked.

What are the numbers the numbers that are displayed at the bottom of the screen in each of the 7.00 and 10.0 calibration solutions? What value does the probe read in the tank water.

in the 7 solution the probe usually settles around 5.4. In the 10 solution it usually settles around 5.6. The probe reads 2.39 constantly in the tank.

Something doesn't make sense here. Why does the tank have a lower pH reading than the 7.0 calibration solution? Do you get the same reading if you put the pH probe in a cup of tank water? What color is the probe (blue)?

Haha. You're supposed to be telling me these things. :)

The display on the AC Jr. reads 2.39 when the probe is in my sump. It reads exactly the same if I take the probe out and place it in a cup of water from the tank. Now, obviously the ph of the tank is not 2.39. It tests 8.2 with a test kit.

When I place the probe in 7.00 calibration fluid to start calibration it sits for a moment at a reading of 2.50 then it quickly starts to climb up to ~6 where it hovers for a moment and then starts counting down in small increments (.01 - .02). The delay gets longer with time until it finally settles around 5.4. I hit select, rinse the probe in fresh water, place it in the 10.00 solution, hit select again and it does basically the same thing starting at 2.50. This time it peaks around 6.3 and settles down to around 5.6 after ~10 mintues. In the instructions that came with the AC Jr. it says it doesn't matter what the reading is, just that it settles. So, I hit select and I get the "probe defective" message. When the AC returns to "run" mode, it will read 2.39 again.

The probe is red.

Problem found -> the probe is an ORP probe. Blue probes are pH and red are ORP.
