Probe Float

For those of you DIYers annoyed by wasting acrylic "holes", I have posted what I did with one hole. This is a Probe Float as recommended by Curt at Neptune.

Nice way to mount the probes with no water level worries. Cheap and easy!! :D :D

Hey Curt, no comments on my conductivity probe installation? I posted that so I could get feedback, good or bad, if you get the chance.

Thats a pretty nice way to keep the foam from enlarging the holes as the probes get knocked around. I used electrical wire glands from HD to plumb mine in-line as I dont have the space for such a probe float.

I can take a picture of them, but basicly they are an electrical fitting with an adjustable rubber gasket on one end and NPT male threads on the other. They are used to plumb wires, like from a pump in a liquid vat, though the vat's wall, and the wire is below the liquid's surface. Think of a big probe holder like the ones you see in those fancy CA reactors, but these cost a $1.25 and fit regular 3/4 plumbing :)

I just poked my through a much smaller oblong piece of styrafoam and wrapped a rubberband around the top side of the probes to keep them from falling through. Very easy, cheap and it works.

Here are the wire glands I was talking about. I picked up some more today at HD since I am thinking of getting the conductivity probe.

RG, check the bag and you'll see the range of wire they take. That one pictured would be the correct one for a 1/2" probe. The 3/4" spec. is for mounting.
