Probe Holders

I've made a few different ones, when I built the fuge in my main tank I put tabs in the corners of the main chamber with 1/2" holes. If you keep parts from Maxi jets here are a few, zip ties or glue works. Any parts/pieces that are about 1/2"work

The temp probe is zip tied since it wont slide into a holder, I have this on both my setups
I raised these up for the photo

Can anyone else comment on the effect of magnets with the probes? I just installed the magclips but my tank isn't set up yet, I'd hate for magnetic interference to alter the readings.

+1 on the MagClips. No issues with magnets for holding probes that I have noted.

Foam insulation with holes in it works. Stick probes through holes and float it in your sump. Like a life preserver for your probes and essentially free.

I have been using the same piece of Styrofoam for years now. Poke your holes in it, then rinse it in the kitchen sink to get the extra floaties off. I put a drip loop on the cables, so it can move up and down freely without hanging in the air as the sump level fluctuates.

I thought we were not supposed to get the top of at least the temp. probe wet???

I really like the MagClip idea, but when the retrun pump is turned off and all the water drains into the sump, wont the water level go over the top of the temp probe?

Hey is my home made DIY Apex probe holder. This is a rough first draft. I used a 3//4" fpt x slip pvc 90 deg elbow and a 1/2" x 3/4" hex reducer. The hex reducer is used to tighten the probe holder onto the acrylic sump. I notched the 90 deg elbow with a dremel. Nothing fancy and it only cost less than $1.50

bkd067 - I like that. As long as wherever you put it the water level won't ever drop enough to leave the probe tip exposed. Gives me an idea for a float holder.

My osmolator top off keeps my sump level very stable so I don't worry too much about the level dropping off. I may lower the level of the probe to have the probe deeper in the sump to make sure that the tip does not become exposed for any reason. I am still playing around with the final product. I would like to see your idea on your DIY float holder.

Bumping a slightly old topic as I've looking for an answer. Looking for a probe holder for the new tank with a few designs in my head. Did anyone end up having any interference issues at all from the having magnets near the pH/ORP/temp probes?

DIY Probe Holder

Here is a probe holder I made to hang on the side of my 75 gal sump. Piece of scrap acrylic and some 1/2" CPVC.

The feedback I received was it was bad to completely submerge the probes, but you can adjust the length of the PVC arms to place it at any depth.

I ended up using some of the old aquatronica probe holders for some of the probes and for the ones I didn't have a holder for, I used the magnetic clips and the probes seem to working fine.
