Problem with 6000

Roger,

I have been running 2 6000's that I purchased two weeks ago. This evening I noticed a high pitched sound coming from one of the metal boxes connceted to the 6000 stream. The Stream is not working. I tried unplugging for a few hours and plug back in with no success. What seems to be the problem?

I think I fixed the problem. I took apart the stream and removed the hydro propeller and followed the instructions in the manual on how to clean. The prop looked pretty cleaned(only had the unit for two weeks) so I ran it under some fresh water. I did notice down near the end of the propeller on the magnet there was a small indentation that almost looked like a sliver of the magnet had come off. It is a very small part but I didn't know if this was normal. It is not a crack. Anyway, I plugged the stream back in and it worked. Should I be concerned with the sliver at the end of the propeller magnet? Thx

The small chip will not be an issue, They make that bevel cut by hand and sometimes that happens if they slip with the tool. I think the noise was likely from air trapped in the pump. If it happens again install the drive unit under water, this usually fixes it.

Forgive my ignorance but what do you men by installing the drive unit underwater. I assume that means to install the propeller shaft into the stream while it is under water?? Thx Roger

Roger,

Over the past few weeks I have had the same problem as stated above. It happens when I turn the pump off(feeding). Once I try to turn the pump on I get the high pitch noise. I have tried to clean the propeller and housing following the directions in the manual numerous time but it still happens. I feed every other day and I had 2 6000 untis in my tank. To get the stream started again I have to turn the propeller slightly then plug the unit back in. Any ideas?

Thanks

John

Usually the part labeled 3f is stuck to part 3g as illustrated on page 48 of the manual. It is also possible the cooling port in the center of the magnet is clogged or that the collar part 3a is not firmly inserted.

He Roger,

I don't seem to have part 3f. Could this be the prolem?

Are you sure it is not stuck to the magnet?

According to pg 37 in manual it says "Only Turbelle pumps with an electronic drive unit have an O ring Seal in the drive unit 6100.70"

Does this mean I'm not suppose to have part 3f?

Part 3f is not an oring, it is the magnet itself on page 48, 3h is the o ring. I think you are confusing the new little tiny o ring that is just a vibration dampner and part of the fish care function. I am looking at the parts breakdown at the very end of the manual. You must have a new revision of the manual, my PDF is about 9 months old.

The what is part 3g?? You originally said the problem I'm experiencing is usually caused by part 3f sticking to 3g. exactly what part is sticking to what?

The magnetic rotor sticking to the upper bearing- the part at the very bottom of the impeller well.

joboo, I am very sorry for the confusion, when they included the little o ring you have as part 3f, the rest of the parts slid down one so it is 3g and 3h in your manual. The oring is very new and only part of pumps with the new fish care driver because it absorbs the noise of start up from the brakes engaging.

Hi,

I am the one with the noisy stream thread a few messages back. I have this exact same problem as this as well as the noisy streams, each time I use the food timer, the alarm goes off. Are the pumps that come with the fishcare function different to those that come without it. I know the blue boxes are different xx26 and xx27 or something like that.

I reveived a fishcare and non fishcare in my TS24 order. I had the blue box only changed over but I don't know which pump it came with. If there are differneces in the pump then I will send it all back and get them replaced as my TS24 still sounds like German Bomber command despite your advice.

Thanks

The pumps are unchanged. I would try a new drive unit if anything or try the one out your quiet pump, I can't think of any problem with the motor or driver that would cause this problem. The problem would have to be in the bush bearing or the upperbearing. The only other possibility is the driver alarm is too sensitive but this is a remote possibility and would be a problem of the driver.
