Problem with 6100

My 6100 was beeping and needed cleaned. I ran it in a 25% vinegar solution over night. I hooked it back up (checked and the impeller magnet was spotless) and it worked for about a minute and then quit. I pulled out the impeller/magnet assembly the plastic base or whatever it is was attached to the bottom of the impeller. It is not stuck at all and the impeller spins freely on it, but when I push back in it only runs for a minute and the alarm sounds again. What is wrong with it? Is it something I can fix?

I use this for the flow in my SPS so I don't want much if any downtime.

Do you have a second pump?

The first thing I would do is make sure every detail of the impeler is correct. Check that the hole in the magnet is free of lime, remove the prop shaft assembly by removing the brakes and make sure their is no lime build up inside. Be sure that when you spin the magnet it is actually engaging the prop (hold the prop in one hand magnet in the other and you should not be able to turn either 360 degrees). It sounds like an issue with the drive unit since it worked for a minute, that sounds like a mechanical problem, not an electrical problem. Also be sure the bush bearing is properly inserted and that you did not lose the oring under the upper bearing.

I pushed everything together and it has worked all night in a bucket of fresh water.

My 6100 is the newer type that does not have the brakes. It is the one piece unit.

Is the oring you are talking about orange? I see it in there.

Yes, on the oring. From my experience what you describe tends to occur with lime build up in that hole in the center of the magnet. Water enters under the prop and goes through two holes in the shaft and travels down that hole. The water is essentially the balls in the bearing and it pressurizes the well so water is flowing through to cool and lubricate and suspend the pieces. When this is blocked you get air inside and it can't escape and this causes the intermittent alarms. The other cause is lime in the brake area as this can preven the brakes from fullly retracting. These areas are often ignored and usually soaking alone won't clean them.

It worked all night last night in a bucket of fresh water with no alarm. I just put it back in the tank and it worked for about 4 minutes and then the alarm comes back on and then it starts and repeat.

I looked and the whole through the magnet is totally clear. I am not sure what else I can look at.

I am sure this is mechanical not electrical since it worked all night in fresh water.

Just cleaned it again and it worked for about 30 minutes and now the alarm goes on and off.

I do have another pump in another tank. What do you want me to try?

Here are some pictures of the parts disasembled. It is not working in the fresh water bucket either. Maybe it is electrical???

I sent the unit to roger for evaluation. I will let you know what the result is when I here from him. He should receive the unit today or tomorrow.
