Sorry that we jumped all over your thread, but we do tend to show our passion for this hobby! We're also pretty good at defending those that have treated us well!

So where are we at here at the CMAS forum with sharing our opinoin? The guy felt he had a bad exprience. He shared it. He did it in a dignified and appropriate manner and he's required to defend it? If you responded to one of my expriences in the same manner, it would of hit a nerve as well. I met Dave twice, IMAC and at the store, seemed like a great guy but is still possible this guy DID have the exprience that he described, everyone is not always at their best EVERYDAY. I'm not suggesting that his exprience was valid or not, but how unencouraging this thread makes it to share a poor expirence? Jus because you don't like something someone says doesn't mean it's not valid?

Just want to say that Boyd, you are the epitome of diplomacy (kinda rhymes ) Always smoothing wrinkles, i love it. And in all fairness, even though i do love OF, Mr Jeffries was sort of jumped on, except by Boyd...

Believe it or not Mr Jeffries i think you did the right thing by posting here, even if it was harsh. Because of it you found that OF is in fact a class act LFS and now you wont be suffering by going to exotic aquatics. ALthough i agree you were jumped on...but hey hopefuly some people will apologize for it??

MrJeffery, I am sure that we are all truly sorry that you had one or more bad experiences in one of our best LFS's in the chicagoland area. Yes, a lot of us get very defensive when one who has treated a great many of us well and fair gets a bad review. It was probably more of a shock response from the posters above.

Dave has had several employees in and out of his doors and unless you have been through the hiring of employees process there is no way to realize how hit and miss of a process it can be.

Dave had one of the best LFS employees that I have ever seen and as far as I can tell, something happened between the two of them and now (last I was there) the employee is only there on a very limited basis. So, to me you had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a new employee that was either really lazy or had no experience in being there.

Just my simple advise (if any one wants to take it) any time that you go to a new area, new LFS, or just a LFS that you have not been to before, talk to the owner before you talk to a single employee even if you have to go back a couple of times. All LFS's are small businesses and the owner is always directly involved. Only from the owner can any one get a real feeling about the scope of how the store does and will operate.

I have had my own bad experiences with LFS's. Doug Lehman can vouch for that as we have gone back and forth on one of them. Even though we disagree, I believe that we respect each others opinion as it may be.

Bottom line, I for one am sorry that you had a bad experience with one of my personal favorite LFS's. I am also glad that you talked to Dave and hopefully he can make you feel like he has made the rest of us feel, like another member of our little reefing family.

And MrJeffrey I apologize if this was in fact an innocent attempt at an informational post, rather than one business trying to undermine another, which is what I thought I "smelled." It has happened here in this board before, a long time ago, and a series of posts in this thread made me feel something like that was going on again.

If that was pure coincidence, then that is good, and again, I am glad if things are going to be worked out. You will find no better, more honest businessman around than Dave.

attacking MrJeffrey for Dave's situation is completely unfair. how in the world does MJ know that Dave has a new born baby? a more appropriate response would be to inform MJ of Dave's situation and suggest that it may be effecting his customer service.

and, IMO, a baby is not a valid excuse. my son had colic for 8 weeks. he cried ALL NIGHT LONG. my wife and i averaged about 2 hours of sleep a night. it was brutal but i did not let it effect my business.
