problem with BK mini 160

The pump started making a loud buzzing noise. I completely disassembled it and soaked everything in vinegar (there were some CaCO3 deposits but not much.) Then I put everything back together, placed it in the sump, and plugged it in. Nothing happens. I have cleaned the pump once before and it worked.

How about an exploded diagram or photo of the pump/impeller so I know I put it all back together correctly? The RD pump is unusual as the pinwheel appears to be fixed to the shaft instead of the magnet. There are pieces and o-rings on either end of the impeller, do these engage with the housing? It seems that their orientation is important.

Hi,

Thanks for the manual! The trick is the rear bearing/ring has to be inserted into the cavity at the bottom of the motor block then the o-ring needs to be pushed down and seated firmly in the groove before inserting the rest of the impeller/wheel assembly. Also, the pump is sensitive to the position of the magnet on the shaft. If it isn't right then there will be play with the wheel and vibration/noise.

[edit: p.s. the pump stopped working because it has a protection circuit that stops the pump if it detects an abnormal condition]

So would it be wise to use a surge protector with the pump?
The manual recommends it since there is a separate, destructive, fuse inside the motorblock.
