Problem with bubbles in my sump *video*

I converted a 40G breeder tank into a sump with bubble trap baffles and refugium. The water dropping down from my overflows is creating too many bubbles. I can just imagine the amount of salt creep in a few weeks.

Not yet but I will definately see how much of a difference it will make.

I just hate that they need to be replaced every 2 days then washed in the laundry.

I assume the pipe is straight from the overflow, that's a lot of velicity to create bubbles. Some 90degree angles will help.

But the idea is from over flow pipe you have 90angle -> three ways -> bubble is out to the top and water down to sump

Looks like you can swap what you have on the current one.

looks nice. try swaping the connectors. It should help but there will still be some bubbles.

Ok here is my old drain setup. Now that I think about it.. this design was perfectly useless for venting air.

I swapped the connectors and bubbles are still there but much better.

I tried to improve things even further by making the water travel further.

The one that extends further creates smaller bubbles than the short one.

There are still too many bubbles. Looking for more idea's.

Well it is very clear what is causing your bubbles. Looks like you are just using two 1 inch drains to skim the top of the water. If that is correct then that is what is causing them. your drains are not completly submerged so there is alot of air comming with the water down your drains. That is why they have baffles in sumps to help eliminate the bubbles getting back into your display. You can also add filter socks if you want. If you look at a hang on the back overflow the drains are completly submerged so there is less bubbles. Nothing to worry about though.
