Problem with Foxface?

Hi all,

2 weeks ago I went out of town for a few days on business and returned to see my one spot foxface in the below condition (black constantly on top). Initially I thought it was an issue, but since then I've done numerous water changes, checked the parameters, and he's been continuing to eat really well and swim well; his character hasn't been any different since turning black. In the morning and when he's sleeping the black dissipates a lot and looks a lot more gray, like you'd typically see in a sleeping foxface, but the coloration is still evident even then.

Long story short, is there an issue or disease going on here? I haven't been able to note anything on the web regarding anything like this.

Thanks!

I've never seen one stay constantly black like that. But I just looked at my foxface, and the black on yours follows the same pattern as the black on mine. It just isn't so... black. So personally, I wouldn't worry about it for now... Maybe also post this in the "Reef Fishes" forum to attract the attention of someone more familiar with foxfaces.

Interesting.

Interesting.

Is he stressed?

Mine only gets that dark when he is mildly stressed. Most of the time he is predominantly yellow with some darker coloration toward the top. When he gets really stressed out, he hides in a cave and goes into full mottled coloration.

The only other fish is a clownfish, which the two seem to be a great pair and have been together for several months. I think I'm going to try and get new RODI filters and such and make sure the water quality is good.
