Problem with osmolator 3155

Hi,

I've just setup my new osmolator as per the instructions and for some reason it won't switch off the pump when the correct level is reached, I've tried cleaning the sensor, checked the voltage is set to 9v, but all to no avail, the yellow light stays on and the pump continues to run despite the level passing the end of the sensor.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Their are a few possibilities.

First, new sensors are often finicky. Plastic is hydrophobic and tends to attract air. If any air bubbles are present they will stick and register not full. If you have bubbles in the sump you need to solve this problem. Otherwise it could be that air is sticking when it is emerse and this would be solved by rinsing which you said you tried but it might be worth doing it again, warm water, mild detergent and rinse it very well, no scrubbing as scratching the sensor will ruin it.

Second, it could be that it is installed wrong. I would verify that the pump is indeed running and it isn't just siphoning water out of the reservoir because the reservoir is above what you are pumping to- remember always pump up to the tank- pumping to the sump is not advised.

Third, it could be that their is a source of magnetic interference from a pump or ballast or even a magnet cleaner nearby. To rule this out it is best to test the system seperately in a small bowl of water in the kitchen.

Fourth, it could be normal, it does run for up to 15 seconds after registering full, on a very small system this may fill it quite a bit.

Fifth, it could be defective but they are tested before shipping and it is very rare for one to be DOA.

Cheers Roger, I'll give your suggestions a go, pump is definately running (water level is rising), no sources of interference nearby (it's my frag tank so very little equipment on it) so I guess I'll try cleaning the sensor again.

Thanks

Kev
