Problem with sump plans

I have a 46 bowfront and was going to build a 20long sump for it. The sump doesn't fit! I guess I can get a 20 high but I can't find one under 50 because they are only sold w/ lights.

ANYWAY, my real reason for posting this is because I will be having a 46 gallon display and about 300gph through my sump, maybe even a little less. Will this be too much? I've got the return plumbed so that it splits and has two returns - one in each corner- and I may turn one into a spraybar.

I'm wondering how important a refugium will be if I have 40lbs of live rock in the display, and if a 10 gallon refugium, which would only have about 5-6 gallons in it at operation, is even worth having??

What are your objectives for the refugium?

If you are looking for someplace to grow a few pods as a live food suplement for your seahorses, even something like a hang on refugium is worth while.

300 gph is pretty low flow for a 45 gallon tank. I have a 650gph Tunze nanostream plus whatever flow I get from my refugium (100-200gph) in a 40g breeder and the horses are fine with that. The key is to distribute the flow widely if you increase it as much as I have.

I'll have 300gph total, going through my sump/refugium and back into the tank. I just want to have filtration(filter sock), a place to put my HOB skimmer that I can easily get to, and a refugium for some live rock and macro. Isn't this the recipe to a perfect liverock/softie/seahorse tank??

Yes it is good to have for a SH tank.

Given your objectives, any flow will do as long as it supplies enough tank water to your skimmer. 300 gph will be fine.
