Problem with Tunze 6055

Hi Roger,

I run three Tunze 6055 pumps connected to a 7095 multi-controller.

One of the pumps seems to have developed a fault. What happens is that when I turn my pumps off for aquarium maintenance, one of them does not start when all the pumps are turned back on again. Instead, I can see that the impeller tries to rotate but can't. I initially thought there was calcium precipitation on the impeller and its housing. I soaked it in white vinegar, but the problem persists. What is strange is that after usually 30 minutes or so, the pumps starts to work normally. On one occasion though, it stopped while working.

Do I need a new pump?

Many thanks

It sounds like it might be an issue with the drive unit. Please check that the propeller part can rotate independent of the magnet, about 180-270 degrees. You could also try swapping the whole drive unit from the problem pump to another 6055 and see if the issue stays with the pump or the drive unit. Please try that and let us know how it goes.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the propeller part can rotate about 270 degrees. The pump is working as I am writing this.

I will do exactly what you advised and will let you know tomorrow after my weekly tank maintenance.
