Coral are great. Zoas and LPS in the bottom and middle of the tank, some SPS near the top. Everything growing. Including two clams

Picked up a RBTA from my LFS in early November. Drip acclimated it and introduced it to the tank. It was always visible, never hid, and eventually settled on a spot and has stayed there since mid-November. Happy little guy

CURRENT PROBLEM

This past weekend (Saturday) I picked up a green BTA from the same LFS. Drip acclimated it and introduced it to the tank. Almost immediately it moved under a rock and has stayed there.

Last night after lights out I shined a flashlight into the tank and am almost positive that the BTA was splitting. This morning, before lights on I checked again and am almost 100% positive that it split.

Lights come on at noon and while the anemone had moved out of the rockwork a bit, there was no sign of the "bud" or split section. No clue where it went or if it even existed. Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me.

A few minutes ago I noticed the Anemone expelling waste, even though I haven't fed it since I got it and now it's shriveled up and back under the rock work.

So, what's going on? Is it just acclimating to the light (it's under rockwork at the bottom of my tank? Is it possible that something else is going on? I'm assuming that my tank is fine, since the RBTA is thriving.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I know that anemones can hide under rocks for a bit but how long before I should start to worry?

Totally normal for a new BTA to go into hiding. It'll come out where it wants when it gets used to your tank. As far as expelling, maybe the LFS had fed it but I wouldn't worry about it just leave it be.

I sort of assumed that was the case but I wanted a second opinion just to be sure, especially since my RBTA didn't act like this at all.

At what point should I start to worry?

I'd say give it a few days and if it starts to look like crap (shriveled up, tentacles coming off, insides exposed etc) then you may want to remove it. Post pics if you can
