Problems with my maxi-jet mod

For some reason after a few days of flawless use, the prop on my mod is beginning to hit the stop on the impeller housing. I guess the airline tubing is coming loose and needs to be reglued? It's going to be a pain to take out since I had the cord strung behing my reef, but I plan on removing it tonight. Does anyone know of anything in particular I should look for when inspecting the mod?

Also, I meant to mention that the impeller is hitting the stop when it is turning the correct way. I relize that it is suppose to hit when turning backwards, but for some reason it is hitting when turning the correct way.

Both of the ones I put into use broke free either at the impellor or the tubing. Glue everything with liberal amounts of glue. I reglued last night and built a mound around the top and bottom of the impellor, the rigid to flex tubing connection and the flex to impellor connection. Mine started making a lot of noise, so I figured somethign was wrong. I'd play with them for a minute, then they'd seem fine only to start making more noise a few minutes later. Something was slipping. I used a whole tube of glue on three mods last night and so far, so good. Glue glue glue, that is the thing to do;).

If you use thin cyanoacylate you shouldn't have to use too much. It should wick into the joint. It would probably help to lightly sand the inside of the prop and the outside of the tube. For tight fitting joints like this thinner is better. Gel probably wouldn't work very well at all.

Well I just took mine out and all the glued spots appear to be holding. I cant get any of the joints to budge. For some reason the entire magnet/extension/impellor complex appears to be periodically kicking out and hitting the acrylic stopper on the impeller housing. I'm clueless, anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure the flex tubing isn't slipping on the impellor? I had one propellor break loose, but the other one that needed mending didn't seem to have any loose joints, either. I went ahead and added tons of glue to everything (prop to rigid, rigid to flex, and flex to impellor magnet), including the impellor magnet to the flex tubing and no problems since... I can't come up with anything...

Well I'll add more glue, but I can't seem to make the impeller move/turn so I don't think it is slipping. It seems to me that the maxi-jet just isn't holding the magnet into the motor housing firmly enough.

Check the depth of the insert (bushing) that goes into the shroud. The groove that twists onto the MJ body should be almost flush with the edge of the shroud. I had to back mine out on one of the mods because I thought the shaft was too long (bushing was too far inside the shroud, though). The 'bushing' may just need to be pressed into the shroud a little tighter. If it goes in too tight, you won't be able to get it to mount, though, and might push the center brace off (did that too). Check the bushing depth and see if that helps.

Which mod is this and what mj do you have it on? How old is your mj pump?

This might shed some light on the situation.

It is a brand new MJ-1200. I'm going to back out the bushing a little bit (1-2mm) because it was perfect flush with the housing that fits over the impellor. I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

I tried adjusting the bushing in and out and it seemed to help the problem, but did not eliminate it. I think the impellor housing is just too short because with the bushing as far out as it will go, the impeller still kicks out and hits the stop. Maybe I should just shave off that stop and hope it doesnt start up backwards?
