problems with orange cap

I have a small problem developing with my orange montipora cap. It is about 5-6" across and has some whitish faded patches developing along the one edge. In the same area there is also some brown algae growing. I suspect it is from my mp40 vortech which is about 12-18" away (not directly in front of it but close). However the patches that are losing colors concern me. Could this be the flow too? I don't think that it a pest. Showed up about a week or two ago and haven't added a single thing to the tank in 5 months. I will try to post a picture.

from last post and this post, I'm gonna have to say you have some water quality Issues my friend :) run some test and post your finding, also more info on your system can help us help you more.

the white part of the cap is dead, it has RTned or STned. or been stung by another coral, and now algea is growing on it.

Cyanobacteria which you explained in other thread, means low flow in the tank as well as high nutritions. also old bulbs !

I would not add any more fish to the tank, untill you get the parameters in check.

+1 on this, don't add more fish until you get the parameters in check, you'll only make it worse.

I am not so sure my paramaters are off. Out of the 20 or so sps corals in my tank this is the only one that is exhibiting any problems. I have 4 other montiporas (3 caps and and spongodes). And they are all growing great. Acros just colored up even more (some hadn't to this point).

My tank has been at these parameters for 6 months now

ph is 8.0-8.2
alk 8-9 dkh
calcium 420
mag 1350
nitrate reading barely detectable with sailfert
phophate tested a couple times with a someone else photometer and same

pounding the carbon and gfo in reactors (changing media out monthly)

I also have 100x flow in the display with mp40w vortech and two mj modded 1200s and return

lighting is two 250 w DE 14k pheonix (new bulbs in February)
also have vho actinic supplementation

20% water changes every 2 weeks (haven't missed yet)

I also feed about half of what others i have seen feed.

Done about everything there is to do on the algae front for a several months now. It is going away. Not a whole lot left.

Yeah I hear you, and you parameters do look good, but it's better safe than sorry when adding fish (from the other thread). But you do have some sort of nutrient build up because of the cyano (again that you mentioned on the other thread), none of us have seen the param's posted so we can't tell what's going on there.

I'm guessing it's too much flow, but the picture will probably tell it all.
