Problems with skimmer

ok ive posted this before but im still having problems and im one step away from throwing it out and buying a new one. ive got a super skimmer....no vales or outlets are clogged...ive checked the pump....all i get is water flowing out the top of the cup. no kinks in the hosing...anyone got any ideas? its producing bubbles at first then overflows with water after about 3 mins.

on the venti do you have it connected to the airline tubing and is it able to suck in air. Try taking off the silencer and see what happens. I just went to mine and if I stop the air from coming into it, it overflows. That is the only other thing I can think of. Mine has been running for a couple of months with no problems and it does do a good job taking out junk but just an FYI after trying to do a complete cleaning which is impossible, I will be changing to a remora.

I have had mine do this and have found that the Air inlet just before the pump tends to get some salt buildup in it. this causes an imbalance of air/water and then causes mine to overflow. It does this about once a month or so. I just take out the screen and venturi and clean it out with a small fork. once I clean it out, and put it back ti works perfect. I have mine in the sump, and if that water level goes up like when I turn off the return, the skimmer overflows too.

I know some people have used super skimmers with good luck, but I used mine as a hang-on a couple months back and for no reason that I can find it overflowed one night...putting about 7 gallons of water on our floor. I'd be fine with using mine in a sump for the future, but won't hang it on anymore. I don't have much advice for you, but they do seem quite temperamental and difficult to adjust properly (i.e., skimming well, but not creating microbubbles or overflowing).

Read the instructions carefully! The pump distance is important! Your pump maybe too low. Also, set the bubbles on the conservative side and give the skimmer time to work(several hours) and see what happens. Then adjust if needed. hope this helps!

I agree with what Chris said. I keep[ my bubbles at the bead in the throat of the cup. well below what they recomend. I get a nice dry stinky gunk out of it.

I am new to this all but I did a lot of research before I bought my CSS.

There were a few posts of people saying that they did overflow for no reason. I think one way listed of making them less tempermental was to replace the adjustment valve on it with a ball valve and it seemed to fix the problems for them. And to also keep the pump intake no deeper than 3 inches below the water line.

It was a HUGE post on a board somewhere and I if find it I will post the link to it.

Here it is. The pictures are all gone because the post is over a year old but there are 40 pages to the thing!

Its looks like they used a 1" gate valve in place of the control knob. You can either cut the old knob controlled valve off and glue the gate in its place or even put the gate valve in line on the return line and open the stock knob all the way open. That way you are making the adjustments with the gate.

I think if you can read the 40 pages without your eyes bleeding there is mention of a pump upgrade with the pump type listed. A Gen-X maybe?

Hope this helps!
