Problems with Vortech MP10, HELP!!

So I was testing all my new equipment last night and my vortech gave me several problems.

First, I connected it and it started rattling like crazy on the lowest constant speed setting. I turned it off and took a look at the wet side and the plate under the propeller was loose. Let me be clear that the pump went straight out of the box, and into to the tank, and therefore came loose. I took it apart and snapped it back into place. Turned it on and it worked ok until I got to about 50% power. after that it started falling off the glass. I thought my glass was too thin so I was using the spacer, but after I saw it fall off, I removed the spacer and it didnt fall off anymore.

Now that the pump was staying stuck to the glass, I tried to ramp it up a little to test the strain it would place on the tank, if any. Again, after about 50%, it would shut off and restart, never lasting more than a few seconds. This is my biggest concern, as I do plan to run the pump around 50-70% most of the time. I disconnected it from the wall, took the wet side apart to see if anything was jamming the propeller. Nothing, as expected since it had seen action all of 10 minutes in a tank with nothing but water. After putting it all back together again, I plugged it back into the wall and fired it up.

Alas! It worked fine this time around. Cranked it up full speed to make sure it wouldnt die out again and it didnt. Tried out all the different modes and speeds and it was pretty sweet.

Now is this something I can expect regularly? What causes the pump to shut off and on like that? Also, one last thing I noticed. After taking it apart and putting it back together, the covering seems somewhat loose. One of the times I cranked it up to about 70% it seemed to have come loose on its own.

This happen to me before when some sand got into the wetside.. Try taking apart the wetside and cleaning it throughly with tap water.

There was no sand in the tank though. It was only water. The pump is brand new, it literally went straight from the box into the tank.
