My ammonia test , both of them... Both give me the same reading that is not on the scale pictured on the box. I have been doing 1 gallon water changes everyday.

Both test kits do it ?
One is brand new and one is a year old

What color is it? At what point in time does it get to that color? Does it go through any other colors on the way to the color it becomes? What test kits are you using?

Red Sea and Hagen

Red Sea and Hagen

Red Sea is a year old and its comes up with a yellowish green color that looks on the test to be between .1 and 0

The NEW Hagen test comes up with some cloudy lookin blue green color that i cant decipher.. My dad, girlfriend, no one can tell. here is the pic....

7 7 7 drops for the hagen shake in between- wait 15 minutes

11 4 4 drops for red sea and shake in between wait 15

Not to hard

Are these both tests that say they are for Salt systems (or salt/fw)? Where in NJ are you? Maybe someone nearby would be willing to run a test with their kit for you. Also you could take the water into a LFS for testing. I would agree that it looks a lot like the 3rd color down.

Don't worry about it. Test your nitrites. If nitrites start peaking than ammonia will be dropping off. Remember that the tank is going thru a cycle. Completing the cycle is the objective, rather than worrying about the ammonia in particular.
