Prodibio

I have been dosing Prodibio to my reef for one month now. It first I noticed no changes (as expected, nothing good in this hobby happens quickly), but now I do notice something major.

My skimmate has gone from light tea colored to dark black. This has happened in the last week or so. I skim very wet, and it is still very dark.

Do other users notice this or is something else causing this?

I am using the Biokit. It contains Bio-Digest, Bioptim, Iodi+, Stronti+ and Reef Booster.

I'm pretty sure that any carbon source that boosts bacteria will cause the darker skimmate. Nothing to worry about.

I figured that the prodibio was causing the darker skimmate. I did not worry me, I was just wondering.

Do many people here use it? If so, results?

I've been using it for a year and a half, I think. Good results for me.

any negatives to the system so far?? did you have to adjust your alk to a lower level before you began?

I keep my Alk around 8-9 and have not had a problem. I have seen threads about Zeo and lowering your alk to 7-8 but I have good growth and don't see any issues with burnt tips. If it isnt broke don't fix it

Do you have to use the whole via once you open it?? It looks like each via has no way to reseal it, so you have to use it all?? Do you use any media with the system like ZeoVit stones??

In my tank I use the whole vial and I think the directions say to dose 1 ampule up to 1000 liters. So with Biodigest I personally would dose the whole vial. You have a similar sized tank as mine. The Bioptim is 1 ampule per 200 or 250 liters. I dose 4 ampules every two weeks opposite of the Biodigest. I use no media and when I dose I turn off the skimmer and GFO for about a half an hour. I fought GHA for 6 months or so and between manual extraction of the algae and prodibio I have gotten my nutrients under control. Been algae free now for over 4 months. I now can feed the fish a little more and my corals look much healthier and more vibrant.

Iv been throwing around the idea of prodibio or zeovit. My tank is fine the way it is, no real issues, PE is good, things are growing, i would just like to increase the coral growth and eliminate some of the bubble algae that i have had since i started the tank.

I started with a 30 pack of Biodigest and a 30 pack of Bioptim. I didn't get the kits. When you start you dose the two together for 6 weeks then dose opposite every other week. Depot is a little expensive on the product. Aquariumspecialty.com is cheaper and if you purchase $50 or more of the product they ship it for free.
It's really up to you if you want to start. It helps your tank turn into a Ultra Low Nutrient System. I have had good success as have others but that is JME. Good luck whatever you decide on.

Example of how I dose
weeks 1-6: 1 vial of Biodigest and 4 vials of Bioptim. Dosed on 1 day digest in the Morning. Optim at night

Since then
Week 1 :1 vial Biodigest on a thursday(I'm off)
Week 2 :4 vials Bioptim again on Thur.
alteranting every week between digest and optim.
I leave my skimmer off for 1/2-1 hour some leave them off for 24hr.

So you dose all 4 vials together at the same time for the bioptim?? Thanks for the insight. You said you can tell a difference with the product.

Yep, all 4 vials. Can definitely tell a difference but it took time don't get discouraged if you don't see things change quickly.
