producing copepods

i plan on gettin a mandrian in about 6-8 months and i was wondering about "breeding" copepods in a seperate 10gal. tank has anyone tried to do this and been successful? i thought i would start buy gettin a bottle or 2 of pods and dumping them in there.. i read somewhere to put a dish sponge in the water and they will hide and breed in it? if anyone has any info on how i could do this it would be great as i don't want my fish to starve! thanks
