Profilux over the internet

I'm not ver network savvy. :)

I believe I should be able to access my Profilux with a web browser? I've found a couple of threads on the Profilux support forum, and I have set the Lan and webserver the way they say.

If it can be access with a web browser, what URL should I use to access it?

If you are trying to access it from home i.e direct then you use the IP address the GHL finds when you click on configuration.

That doesn't work? I get a message that says:

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading

I get that message with Firefox.

With IE I get:

The web page cannot be displayed

Most likely cause:
•Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed

I am connected to the LAN port with an Ethernet cable, it works fine with PLC, do I need to use a different method for the web browser?

Ok then thats your router kicking it out or browser

Then we are into multiple different reasons from interferences to cables or simply your browser settings.

If it connects through PLC then the Profilux is working and its an outside enviroment. Sorry :(

Has anyone else here got some info that might help with this?

I assume you are connected directly to your router using cat5e cable.

I assume you are using the latest firmware also although that should make no difference

I doubt it will change anything but go up to the latest found at www.aquariumcomputer.com

remember to save your settings
remember to install the matching oftware after installing the new firmware
only do updates via VERY stable USB or better still follow my tutorial video on the support forum

Stable USB is the RS232 with an adapter to USB? Or can I just go to the USB on the Profilux? If it has to be the RS232, I assume I just remove the AI light cable from the RS232 while I'm doing the update?

thats not really anymore stable than direct USB using the port by the Ethernet port

The most stabe way is RS232 to RS232 but many odern PC's dont have this connection.

The next most stable is RS232/USB converter using the firmware update tool highlighted in the video, its fast and exactly how the factory put the firmware on when new.

In any event having an RS232 to USB adapter is your get out of jail card should you accidentally crash the firmware of the controller, you need access to the RS232 port to reload the firmwre using the factory Fujitsu (flasher) tool.

In the absence of modern PC's having an RS232 port that requirement for an adapter is a worthy addition.

So to clarify -
Doing firmware updates through PLC can be done through USB to USB typically without any issue, however having an adapter provides you with the get out of jail card in any event.

We recommend using the upload tool via RS232 or RS232 to USB because its totally fail safe and faster.

Well it's going to be a little harder to locate than I thought. I'll have to take a ride to get an adapter. I tried to do it via the USB to USB but when I power down the Profilux per the video the USB connection is lost?

I also tried via the PLC, but that only recognizes the Ethernet connection.

Is it possible to do USB to USB?

You can do firmware updates via usb to usb yes, using the PLC software, you have to download the USB drivers first though of course and scan the com port.

lets carry this on via your original thread on the support forum

Not a problem at all, we have a great community support network, I will be the first to admit I do not have all the answers and many users here sure can fill in the gaps.

Please use whichever forum works for you ;)

I've done the firmware update and still haveing the same results.

FWIW I can access my router via 192.168.1.1, my wireless adapter (I was using for my Apex but not using it for the Profilux) via 192.168.1.2 they both access fine. The attached devices for my router show the profilux on 192.168.1.5 when I try that I can't make a connection?
