I have a new stand alone unit that I just got around to setting up and when I plugg it in the LCD screen has a bunch of dead pixels and it distorts the screen pretty bad....I left a message w aqua cave (where I bought it) am and waiting for a response...thought I might post here and see if it's something I can fix or if anyone else had the same experience

I am guessing that this is a second hand unit.
I have seen a few posts of the screen failing after a 1 to 2 years, the same symptoms you are describing.
I suggest taking back to the supplier you purchased from if it is that recent!
May be dud out of the box!

No it was bought brand new, I'll try the retailer where I bought it again later today and see if I get a response

They will send you a new screen they are interchangeable by the user.

Screens typically fail from new due to being knocked in transit, being liquid in nature sudden jolts can break the crystal bond.

Older screens in humid enviroments can also break down and as most dosers are put in very humid sumps, yes after a few years these can fail, but GHL are very good to warranty these up to 2 years.

Hi

I think it is quite clear - if we are talking about a dead on arrival contact your retailer.

The forum can't help you, your retailer will help you.

Debates about used units, humdity, shocks etc. don't help and are not necessary in my opinion.

I disagree...I think that sharing user experiences with people from this forum can help immensely.
