Project 130g

Some of you know already about my upgrade from the ol 55g w 10 sump to an acceptable replacement: 130g w/ 55 sump and refugium.

I'm almost done with the plumbing, just have the return line left. Unfortunately Lowe's was closed so i couldn't get some needed elbows to finish it up. But first thing in the morning i'll be there!

I also went ahead and hung the 'canopy' with the metal halides from the ceiling by 6 small black chains. Fired up the lights and i'm in love so far lol. Quite an upgrade going from PC's and fluorescents to a couple of 250's. Soon i'll add another 250.

As far as power control, I got a couple 8 switch dj power centers thanks to Steve's recommendation (soupersteve). And I'll be modding 4 mj400's and running them on a Chauvet 4 channel switchable timer that i modded with a simple solder-in 100 uF capacitor. It now switches between powerheads every 6 to 70 seconds depending on where the speed knob is set.

Now, enough with the novel. I'll be starting to fill her up hopefully tomorrow. After i clean the area up a bit and finish everything before filling it up, i'll snap some pics and upload them :)

   I'm excited!

ok ok i couldn't wait! haha I snapped a few quick pics with the mh's on.

forgive the messy room. This will all be taken care of today and i'll probably go pick up like 100 lbs of fine sand today too.

Also you can see a pic of the 55 as its set up right now. Once the 130 gets up and running, the 55 is coming down and going up for sale. I'll need it out of the house asap

Thanks guys. I'll fill it first then add sand since i'm doing all live sand now instead of just a little live sand. Then when its cycled, i'll add all the live sand from my 55 :) God i cant wait til its all set up!

Next project (besides the mj400's), i'm going to hopefully make the skimmer you see on the floor of photo #3 somewhat useful. As matt suggested, i'll do the meshwheel and a venturi. Hopefully it turns out good :)

ok plumbing done, sink fixed, ro/di running perfectly, now i'm short about 5 feet of vinyl tubing.. sigh.. its always something isn't it...

i hate going into lowes 10 times a day

water is going in! finally! i'll let it run all night and turn it off in the morning, then turn it on when i'm home... sigh... this is going to take forever lol.

One more M/H light in the middle would be even better eh?

Anthony, those are the mogul bases/ reflectors and magnetic ballast's from your old setup, we'll just keep passing them along.

lol tim its just a pair of handmedowns! lol. I'm sure i'll be passing them down some day once i upgrade to electronic ballasts. Thanks again :)

I guess I didn't upgrade. I went to 4 vho's in that setup. I use that tank for the LPS stuff and the 75 for the SPS
