Project: Elos System 120 / 79 gallon rimless

Latest update

All is running well, very happy with the system
Picked up a ball of Cheato at the meeting Friday Night, Thanks Nate!

I put it in the Variable velocity Reducing Chamber and hung a light over it.
I had the cover to the sump recreated in clear by Tap Plastics to let the light shine in, the original was black.

I have the light running opposite of the tank lighting.

I picked up a couple corals at the meeting as well, and will post some pictures later when the Solar Flare is up to full power.

Well, There are no miracles happening just yet, but I thought I would post an update photo or two.

This guy lost both his claws during the transfer, both have grown back nicely

I was in Costco Today, and spotted this LED for $13.99

I picked one up and replaced the light over my Cheato

It produces virtually no heat, burns only 5 watts, and the light is directed straight down. Much better than the CFL, which scattered the light all over the sump.

Tank looks sweet Guy. I get very focused on what is occurring inside the tank and haven't concerned myself with what the outside looks like. Seeing a tank like yours reminds me that the layered D.I.Y. look is not where it's at.

Good bulb find.

How are the 2 VorTechs working for you? I'm sure they move water and create serious flow along the bottom of the tank.

I have one "was a gen1 upgraded to gen2" VorTech and am contemplating adding a second to get more "random" water movement. While the rate of flow varies with just one (nice, variable flow), it is essentially always in the same direction.

Are you running them in anti-sync mode?

What does the "impact zone", where the flows from the two pumps meet, look like? I'm thinking I don't want a strip of reef water sticking up out of my tank like a liquid mohawk. I spill enough water own my own and don't need help with that.

And how much does the impact zone move from side to side? Ideally the center of the tank would experience movement to one side for a while and then the other, like a tide.

Thanks.

Ken

Thanks for the Compliment Ken, The layered DIY is still sitting in the garage, I don't miss it, the new system is quieter, cleaner, and just looks nice in the livingroom.

Good bulb find. So far it looks great, a lower wattage, but focused so it is just as bright where I need it

I had to tune it a few times to keep the sand where I put it, blew it down to BB in the center of the tank

Are you running them in anti-sync mode? Yes, in Reef Crest

Let's just say it gives the Tang a real workout when I put the Rod's Food in there, the surface of the water is very turbulent like a Jacuzzi

Not so much now with it tuned down, but the sand stays put for the most part. I get little "dust devils" under the pumps from time to time.

Thanks.

Ken
