Prolapsed byssus gland in T.maxima?

I have a T. maxima that's about 5 to 5.5", been in my tank for about a year to year and a half. Always been healthy and has been growing well.

This past week I noticed what appears to be tissue extending out of it's byssal opening, and the small rock it was attached to was gone.

I'm afraid that the tissue that appears to have prolapsed through the byssal opening is the clams byssal gland. I've been trying to do some searches, but haven't actually found any pictures of a T. maximas byssal gland (anyone seen one?).

I read that some of the bigger clams like Derasas will lose their byssal glands when they get big enough. Do T. maximas do this? I didn't think so, but I guess I'm grasping at straws.

I've got the clam isolated in a small quarentine chamber, and right now it seems to be OK. It is extending it's mantle, to about two thirds of fully open, and reacts to overhead shadows.

I guess I'm at a loss for what else to do, other than just wait and see what happens. Is my clam doomed? Anybody have any thoughts?
