Hey guys,
Currently, have a 120 gallon tank that consist of mostly sps corals. However, since I don't have a controllable pump I am constantly having to get creative in creating enough random flow. Something I know is hindering the grow of some of my sps coral.
Currently for circulation
Mag 9.5 return (head pressure at 700gph) returning from 1 accelerator w/rotating head. Tunze wavebox (1'' wave on constant). Koralia evolution 850gph on the middle point towards middle. Korlia magnum 3200gph on the left wall on a wavemaker (switching on/off 10-20 seconds). Looking to use my korlia magnum (as back-up) for something controllable and gentler.
I have a family; spending $1000 in one shot, they will flip.. :fun4:
Anyways, what would compliment the tunze wavebox the best? If cost was not an issue my personal favorite would be 2 tunzes 6095(via 2 sea-sweeps) on multi-controller, as well as a return sea swirl:lmao: keep dreaming huh?
These are my options:
Option A: Jebo wp-40 ($105 shipped from china). Same settings as the vortech yet more options for placement like the tunze. Long-term durability is yet to be seen but for that price can't really go wrong here. Plus I'd be easily willing to replace them every 2 years at that price.
Option B: Vortech MP-40 ($465) I love the small in tank look but really don't like the pump on the outside (unless in-wall tank). Also, I hear a lot of customer complaints regarding the noise factor (not really an issue for me - if a pumps broke you won't know it unless it can be heard). According to many, the wet-side has to be replaced every 4 years! (pretty crappy if this is true for a $465 pump especially with the $90 wetside cost). Pros include having a amazing linear, controllable, random flow all mixed together. The pump has by far the best under tow of any pumps. I think for larger wide aquariums having few MP-40 on the back glass would be amazing. Control features probably inferior to multi-controller; if I have to rely on family to randomly change the modes then they are worthless (for random flow).
Option C: Tunze 6095 ($268) I don't trust tunze products that much since i've had a bad experience. Besides the wavebox I purchased a non-controllabe tunze back in 2009 and it broke in 3 months (while I was away), resulting in loss of many sps corals. Since most TOTM winners showcase the impact of tunze/multi controller; I can't deny they have the best results. IMO most of these reefers have a lot of pocket money and probably change/upgrade the tunze pumps every 1-2 years (as well as have 4+ pumps). I would like to hear if anyone has had a tunze run for more than 5+ years 24-7/365? I just don't see them lasting for more than 2-3 years (without burning out).
My question to you all:
WHAT WOULD COMPLIMENT MY TUNZE WAVEBOX AND KORLIA EVOLUTION THE MOST? OPTION A, B, C? OR ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATION?
Note: I have a very open aquascape and trying to spending max $465 in one order:thumbsup:
