Proper Freshwater Dip Method

Hi,

I am looking for instructions on how to properly freshwater dip my fish. Every search I have done has gone into some discussion about how freshwater dips dont cure ich.. etc..

I want to do a freshwater dip to relieve my emperor angel from flukes during his treatment in QT. Could someone provide me with proper instructions on how the raise the pH and their successful technique.

Thanks,

R.W.

1. Use a clear glass bowl or container w/ RODI water; I like to aerate it with an airstone beforehand but this is probably optional

2. Ensure temp matches perfectly (use a heater)

3. Ensure pH is a close match (doesn't have to be perfect) - a squirt of tank water will usually accomplish this

4. Do the dip for no more than 5 mins. After 2 or 3 mins you should start to see white flukes fall off the fish and settle to the bottom. Don't freak if the fish "plays dead" (tangs will often do this). As long as the fish is still breathing, he is fine.

5. Most fish will tolerate a f/w dip without any long-term adverse effects. Just don't do it too often to the same fish. However, there's always the chance a fish can go into osmotic shock and die. The odds are against this happening... but the possibility is always there.

Good luck!

I prefer to use a pinch of baking soda and do a minimum of 5 minutes max of 10 minutes. Generally I just treat the qt with prazi pro.
