Proper Id and treatment

So i went to the lfs today and they had this guy labeled as a Condy and im pretty sure its a lta. I paid $9 for it so if it is a condy that's ok and if its a lta that's even better. . It has the white spots and when open the tentacles are pinkish purple and green. I have a condy from petco and it does not have the white spots on it. It has a small tear in the top of the foot/column so it went straight to my HT for qt and cipro treatment that started tonight. So my questions are 1. What do I actually have a condy or a Lta? 2. Does the cipro treatment usually work for tears to prevent infections? 3. Any other treatment advice? My tank info: 90g tank with 40 (probably 15 gallons of water) breeder sump. Main display is 2 years old ( some stuff older from previous tank upgrades) Prams: Nitrate/nitrite 0 Phosophate 0. Sg 1.026 CA/Mag normal ranges. MH and Led lighting. Shallow sand bed hence the tupperware bowl in the ht tank.

It is definitely a LTA, however as you seem to realize, a torn foot is usually certain death for them. As for the treatment with ciprofloxacin and the rest, you are walking in unknown territory with this species, but there is some evidence suggesting that you may save it using medication. I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks. It seams to be inflating and looking better this morning. The stuff that was coming out the side of the foot is gone and i cant find the tear this morning. Mouth looks good and closed. Ill update a photo later in the day.

I think this guy might make it. Mouth is tightly closed and its still inflating and getting bigger. Next question is will it live in the same tank as my ritteri without causing a battle?

Good question, I wish I knew. Never tried a LTA. Good luck on the treatment, it would be good to see some way of saving the hurt anemones we always see. What dosage are you using?

Keep us posted and good luck!

Wow, that last shot looks pretty darn good for an injured animal... keep it up and keep us posted. Best of luck!

Still no sign of the tear in the first set of pics. Maybe the cipro treatment healed it enough that its no longer going to be seen. But its strange that it just disappeared over night with no visable trace of where the tear was. It is my experince that a tear almost always is closely followed by gaping mouth and death and always seam to get worse not better. Maybe the cipro is working, Im using a 10 gallon tank and half a 500mg cipro tablet a day so 250 mg a day. Im doing nightly 5 gallon water changes then adding the cipro and then lights out till morning. When I turned off the light tonight it was really inflated and looked good. Now if i can figure out how to get it to stay in the bowl with the sand and plant its foot. More pics to come tomorrow.

So after two full days of Cipro treatment it is looking better and expanding a lot more. I am a little concerned because it has a little strip of skin that it appeared to be shedding. Bu
t the foot looks ok and intact. I placed it back in the tupper ware container and buried the foot this morning and it dug it self back out, but seams to be settling back into the sand on its own. I'm going to do at least another day of Cipro and then try to move it to the main display and see what happens between it and the ritteri. I may be trying to re home this guy soon. I just hated to see it waste away in their tank when I had a good HT up and running to give it a shot esp sense they didn't even have it labeled right. It might be the best $9 purchase that I've made in a while. Pics took 20 mins

Top shot looking down

Against my better judgement I just put a 3-4" layer of sand and a piece of lr on one end of my HT. The foot is showing signs of deteriorating and not doing well and I wonder if its not being able to expand and do well in the container. I know foot injures are usually a death sentence to nems but im going to try everything I can to save this one. Mouth is still tightly closed and nem still is expanding and getting bigger. But the foot is really concerning me now. Hopefully the meds will reverse the effects of the damage done and allow it to heal. My HT may become a mini display for a while because I will not risk putting anything in my tank that is remotely sick due to my ritteri. The treatment tank is a 10 gallon tank and im running 2 T8 strips across it. Is that enough lighting???

Havent tried to feed it bc its in the ht. I dont want a amonia spike. I didnt expect it to be in qt long but that has now changed,

Yea it is here too they normally run $28-40. The lfs had it in a tank that he said was all condys and i told him it looked like a lta and he swore it wasnt that it come in labeled as a condy and thats the price he sold it to me for. Now if i can just get it to live.
