Protein Skimmer for QT?

Guess we found out the reason when all these fish are dying......

You should NEVER mix copper with anything. This is from the back of cupramine "Do not use in conjunction with any other medication". It is very important to follow instructions carefully when using any medication.

I guess you gotta buy the magazine to find out Matts full QT process LOL.

Its free, online... ;)

yea i had to learn the hard way.... well update on the fish 2 days now and they were eating fine today still no signs of ich yet(fingers crossed) but will be adding copper and a skimmer tommorow and Matt please share!!!!

it is for certain types of copper or i shouldn't use my skimmer period? because i have contacted seachem and they said copper can be used with cupramine like matt said i want to prolong the time between water changes because they get really finicky everytime i stick my hands in there

I always run my QT large enough to be a temporary or even permanent home for my fish (try to stick with smaller fish in a 30BR) and run natural filtration (had four mangroves which don't do much and two HOBs with chaetomorpha) and about 10 pounds of live rock and 10 pounds of live sand, coupled with differing sizes and shapes of pvc (1id 2id 4id elbows 45s pipe etc). I allow the fish to settle in, then (if needed) administer praziquantel. If there's any sign of ich, I move to a hospital tank to treat it. This step is not ideal, as it is very stress-inducing, but imo is better than a sterile quarantine.

Remember to use a specimen container when moving your fish, as nets can damage them (think being caught in a sandpaper web with no eyelids or clothes).

NuTom,

I'm not defending MattL merely because he's a fellow Bostonian. ;) I just don't understand your continued attitude towards him. IMO, I don't see that he's trying to bash you. His advice and experiences obviously differ from yours. So what's wrong with that? This is a forum, where people are allowed to offer and accept information. It's apparent that the author of this thread doesn't mind differing points of view. Why should you? :) I, for one, am always open to suggestions.

You really ought to RELAX.

I'm not trying to "bash" you. But if you can't handle someone's advice or opinions differing from yours, then maybe you shouldn't partake in such discussions.

Regards,
Paul

BTW MattL... Where can I find this article?

Please leave my name out of this thread!! This thread annoys me.

I can't stay when people give people mix advises. If you read Matt's advises carefully you'll see this.

Can cupramine and prazipro be used at the same time (i.e. "mixed")?

I've dosed Prazipro on the tail end of a copper treatment in my QT tank. In other words, the copper probably isn't full strength at that point, but I don't make any effort to aggressively remove the copper. Whatever copper gets removed happens during the 20% water changes every week.

I don't see the mixed advice that you speak of. But as ma boy from L.A. says... "whateverz, don't let it get to you." :)

A protein skimmer, IMO, is an essential part of quarantine. The only thing is, it may have to be turned off for some medications. Check the medication to see if the indications suggest discontinuing protein skimming.

Matt:cool:

Here you can see he's telling him to uses a skimmer but from jc16 first post he clearly states what meds he's using. Copper Furan2 and Prazi Pro. Now a skimmer would be a bad idea as it would remove the meds.

And let's not forget that if you are using a skimmer safe medication, then that medication must be redosed for every water change.

My quarantine system is 40L gal with 45lbs of live rock* and a sump. In this case, skimming is possible.

* I do not use copper based medications. [/B]

Please elaborate on skimmer safe meds. He's clearly stated what meds he's using. Did you really read his first post carefully? This skimming is possible. I do not use copper meds. Then why did you advised jc16 to get a skimmer then.

See mixed advises!!!

Only certain medications are incompatible with live rock, most notably copper based medications. Most (like Prazipro) are just fine in a live rock, live sand environment.

He disagrees with my answer to using meds with liverock then tells him not to with copper. Did you really read he's first post!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways i done with this thread. This guy is still having problems with a skimmer added as someone advised him too. I was clearly trying to help him by trying to find the root of his problems.

Once again don't bring me in this again.

Huh? Reeking? For someone who is so caught up in details, you ought to be a little more diligent with your grammar and spelling.

Once again don't bring me in this again.

Wow. Someone has a chip on his shoulder. Take care braw. :smokin:

Yes reeking do you need to go back to school or something? Look it up in the dictionary.

I really don't know where you came into this thread? You had nothing postive to say in the beginning.

Whoah. How'd you know? Are you psychic? I do indeed need to go back to school. :)

Based on the NUMEROUS errors in your posts, I assumed you meant reefing. I honestly didn't think you meant reeking. It didn't even dawn on me. In hindsight, that's a pretty good one. I suppose I didn't give you enough credit.

Hrm. Really? Well then neither have you. :lol2:

Take care Doo. :strooper:

Kindest regards,
Paul

Yeah...

Sorry about that jc. I didn't mean for your thread to go in the direction it went in. It must be the full moon. ;)

Again, my sincerest apologies.

Paul
