Protein Skimmer for RSM 250

I got an old Red Sea Max 250 a while ago and I have spent hours looking through amazon and forums trying to find a good protein skimmer for it. There is a tiny footprint and most hang on back skimmers won't work and it is 60 gallons.

If anyone has a good option please let me know!!

if you're not opposed to having a HOB skimmer then I would recommend the Reef Octopus 2000 HOB

Its rated on BRS as 175g lightly stocked 100g medium stock and 75g heavily stocked. I currently run one on my 75 and it is a beast.

I have a Reef Octopus 2000 HOB and it doesn't fit on the back of the tank. It cannot reach the water in the back. Even if I filled up the back completely, It is very visible.

I used it on my old 120 Gallon tank and I would say it is quite the beast xD

Well that's unfortunate, I'm not familiar with the Red Sea tanks, when you say the back is there a compartment separate from the main tank like an overflow box that the skimmer hangs on?

Sounds like you might be stuck with an internal skimmer, I'm sorry I don't have any experience with external skimmers so I won't be much help there.

If you know and can post how big of a footprint you have for the skimmer compartment in your sump then I'm sure someone will be able to give you some good recommendations

I plan on using the Reef Octopus 150SSS. I know this one fits and the Nyos 120 fits as well.

edit: Saw this was for the rsM...not sure if those will work.

Tunze 9004 fits in the sump of the RSM Max 250. Much better skimmer than the stock one.

I realize this thread is about 6 months old but I was wondering if you ever picked up a skimmer for the RSM 250? I have one as well and also need a skimmer.

Look into Deltec; Lifereef or MTC

The new Deltec's should be out soon I think. If money is no object than Bubble King.

Rating my opinion:

Bubble King best skimmer on the market but a hefty price.

MTC MVX Series a beast of skimmer and reasonable priced.

Deltec Skimmers very good quality issue getting parts sometimes, but I think that has been resolved.

Lifereef old school but works and a good skimmer but can be noisy.

I have a slightly used Reef Octopus 110 if you are interested? Was in my 250, but I bought a bigger sump and put in basement directly below tank (11 feet down) and needed a bigger skimmer - got a skimz, but the 110 fit well in the sump with the 250.
