So I have a 75 gallon with a 20gal sump. I have recently purchased a Bubble Magnus Curve 5 and when I installed it, it just filled the collection cup instantly. The parameters say it's meant to run a little over 9" and I am running at 8". I have read about break in periods but should the skimmer be overflowing the collection cup like this?

You may also want to get it closer to the 9 inches that's recommended. That will help with controlling the amount of water going into the cup.

You may also need to adjust the air intake on the pump. I'm not familiar with your specific skimmer, but any good modern skimmer has a way to control the air intake.
A quick search confirms that 8" is about ideal for this skimmer. As long as it is assembled correctly and assuming there is nothing funky in your water I would try raising the skimmer even higher til it breaks in to avoid any further overflowing then try going back down to 8" depth.

I just started my Curve 7 few days ago. Following the instruction, I set 10". In first week, it worked crazily. After that, it looked stable but still collected a lot.
Finally, my seller explained, the instruction was wrong. In fact, the water level for the Curve 7 is just around 7". Now it's working on a 3 inch stand

I have a curve 7 sat in 12" water, works fine after the initial break in period. I'm sure yours just needs to break in, you can try raising it up for a few days.
