Protein Skimmer setup - Would this work?

Hello experts,

I have learned that the protein skimmer is one of the most important equipment for SW. So I went out and bought an AquaC ev-180 protein skimmer for my 135g RR tank. I need some advice on how to properly set up this skimmer.

Right now I am using a mag12 to pump the water from the sump back to the tank. Can I use this same mag12 to pump the water into the skimmer, and then the water coming out of the skimmer would be directed straight back into the tank?

Or do I need to have a separate pump just for the skimmer itself inside the sump?

thanks.

If your skimmer was high enough to drain inside your tank...maybe. However, not a good way to go due to the turbulence your skimmer output creates. Go with two pumps IMO and have your skimmer operate within or just outside your sump.

From what I have heard, over driving Aqua C's is a good thing. Based on this I would go with a large external pump like a pan-world ( they are reasonably priced ) or if you can afford it an Iwaki.

I have a little giant 4mdq pressure rated pump that will work for $75..

It was used for a little bit but it was to loud for my bed room.
