Protruding Gill on Snowflake Clownfish

Hello,

I just received a shipment of two snowflake clownfish on Tuesday Dec. 16th. Upon receiving them I immediately noticed during acclimation that the black and white snowflake had a very red and protruding gill hanging out from underneath the right gill flap. It is eating fine and swimming around. It does have rapid breathing even after a few days. I'm not sure if this could be due to stress of a new home. I started Seachem Paraguard after 24 hours of them being in the QT tank. I will attach a couple of pictures and hopefully someone has some clue as to what this is.

Has a little bit of rock

Ammonia =0

Nitrites=0

Nitrates=5

Salinity= 1.024

Temp= 80.4

pH= 8.1



Tank inhabitants

1 electric blue hermit crab

1 electric orange hermit crab

1 Snowflake Clownfish orange and white

I think that happens when they were raised (fry) and didn't have enough oxygen...besides that it will be ok.

So... This big huge red gill will always hang outside its body? Won't that be a problem if it scrapes it on rock or fights with a tank mate who nips it? And I'm still a bit concerned about the rapid open mouth breathing.

That looks like a gill injury of some sort.

Your picture is not detail enough. Better picture of the gill is needed for us to tell. I know that it is hard to get a good detail picture. However, but with picture as it, it is impossible to say what the problem is.

Both gills are very red and hanging out from underneath the full plates.
