Hi there

First off, Congratulations on your FANTASTIC article in the new OnLine Mag.

I read it from top to bottom and thought it was excellent !!!

I have a Pseudochromis in my tank and have found it to be a most interesting fish.

see attached link to pic. ( sorry Webshots wont allow pic to be shown for some reason witiout having to follow the link ?? )

Anyway, could you possibly ID it as it did not appear to be referenced in your article.

Its colour is absoloutely incredible to the eye, a mixture of Vibrant shades Orange, Red, & Pink.

On reading youre article it appears that the trait on " Chowing down " on Ornamental shrimp is common, I have had this fella a year in with a S.Hispidus B.Shrimp and a Blood Shrimp with no probs to date. Mmmmmm mind you I did add a cleaner shrimp a year back and never saw it again

Thanks

Brian. :)

male Cypho purpurescens. cool and rare fish.

i'd guess that anything added to the tank at this point will be considered food. any shrimp that co-exist with dottybacks usually have to be in the tank prior to the dottyback.

Thanks for the reply

Fascinating. !!!

Rare, Interestingly enough I have seen this fish at least once since my original purchase in my LFS for sale.

Mmmm now you have got me interested in maybe establishing a breeding pair :)

I have him ? in a 6 foot tank with a pair of Clarkii' a spawning pair of Y.T Damsels, a Yellow Tang, Purple Tang, Coral Beauty, Flame Hawk, 3 Green Chromis, a Bangaii C. and a tiny Lemon Goby.

He is a fascinating fish to watch, always lurking, and swimming close to the rockwork, and very interestingly alway's with a full distended belly.

I beleive, after reading your article he feeds well on tank infauna probably especially Bristleworms, wondered why I only ever saw a few small ones infrequently in the tank. :)

He has been in the tank over a year and is both aesthetically beautifull and fascinating to watch, he has a reasnobly large territory to roam in the form of an open rockwork structure in a 6 ' tank.

On introduction to the tank initially, he looked fairly beat up for the first coupla weeks with frayed fins, but soon settled in.

Am planning a bigger setup soon to be installed , with associated Refugium & seagrass setup, thinking of maybe trying to isolate him into the sump and introduce a female, will try & get hold of the publication you mentioned " Breeding the Orchid Dottyback " ??

Any more info/Advise would be much appreciated :)

Thanks for the reply

Cheers

hmm, interesting as this fish look similar to a Flame Hawk. But now after looking at it again, I see the similarity with my Pseudochromis porphyreus.

Purple Pseudochromis is definitely a beautiful fish, but extremely bully (at least in my case).

When I first introduced him to my tank, I was afraid as my Royal Gramma was chasing it around. But the next day, the table had turned and Pseudochromis was harassing the heck out of my Gramma. Before I could move the Gramma, he injured it so severely, he was killed:(

Then the evil man was after my Scissor tail goby. That poor fish didn't even have a chance ...I saw it when it was being eaten by the hermit :(

Since then I tried to catch it, but he's the hardest fish to catch. But still harassing my Perculas, Scooter Blenny and Chromis.

Well, I am sorry to say it, but I will never ever get a Pseudochromis again

(But I haven't read the article yet, so I should read that now:)

Thanks
