Puerto Rico

I don't live in PR but I know of someone who sells down there and also someone else who is willing to ship to PR.
Where are you located?
I will send you the contact info. :)

Ship to Puerto Rico? Are you kidding me, they can just take a dive in their backyard and get everything for free!

hola

hola

I'm from Puerto Rico and there are a few great places. If you live in the Metro Area:

EcoArrecife: www.ecoarrecife.com

El Gran Aquarium: www.elgranaquarium.com

Mr. Fish (this guys are really nice, one of the owners is a friend his name is Duamed, the other owners name is Marshall and they know what they're doing) 787-250-3474

Red Fin Aquarium 787-748-1265

Super Pet Center in Plaza Las Americas they have a good variety and great prices.

NEVER buy at Aquarium Specialties unless you want to overpay ridiculously for everything.

Where in Puerto Rico do live? so I can give you more info. I don't know of anybody that ships anymore to Puerto Rico, so if somebody does know, please post so that I can contact also.

Let me know if you need anything else. Have fun.

Gabriel - elbori is the one I was going to get you info. for.

elbori - I am the one you spoke with on reefs.org :)

geris- Thanks for all the info. Duamed has been my good friend for a long time. I buy from him all my fish. I think Ecoarrecife is very nice but but I never like what I find there. Red Fin.......no comments. Super Pet is nice if you can get there when corals arrive. I almost never buy at Aquarium Specialties but there are things you just can't get anywhere else. I will check elgranaquarium and My little reef.

Thank You

If anyone is interested in contacting a wholesaler that ships to Puerto Rico please contact me and I can forward their information to you.

Alberto (elbori): I would like to go to your store where is it? Enviame email please: iamtpr@hotmail.com Gracias

Gabriel: Red Fin is kinda funky, isn't it? Es medio extraño...
jajajaja ;-)

I live in Puerto Rico too in the Carolina area. I've been to your store elbori. Pretty nice setup. Did you ever get to install that invert area in your store?

Ditto on buying from Aquarium Specialties, just plain out robbery what goes on there.

You might also wanna try going to The Fish Store on Iturregui Ave. Carolina just b4 Ciudad Deportiva Roberto Clemente, some of the best prices in town. But you have to be there when their shipments arrive. PM me for more info.

Unfortunetely at this time collecting is almost forbidden everywhere in the island. New regulations are being put in place to ban collecting local inverts and fish. If I want a royal gramma, for example, I have to import it from a supplier in the States even if they're local fish.

Overfishing and less than desirable collecting practices have made for very strict collecting bans. Hopefully in the near future the reefs surrounding our island will recuperate. So for now your best bet is trying to locate caribbean biotope corals through inland suppliers since they have collectors all over the Caribbean.

Hi
I will be going to PR next Thursday. We are in the Satellite business and have a service call in Ponce. When I found out it was at a saltwater fish farm (breeding clowns, gobies and dottybacks), it was clear that I will be accompanying my boyfriend. Are there any stores worthwhile visiting? The only time we will have in San Juan is Sunday before we go back to Florida.
I appreciate any suggestions or comments.

Grouper,

In the San Juan area, stores that open on Sunday, you could see a few that are worthwhile:

EcoArrecife: www.ecoarrecife.com This one is beautiful, you could get the exact address and phone number from their web site.

El Gran Aquarium: www.elgranaquarium.com This is the oldest saltwater store in the metro area.

Mr. Fish (this guys are really nice, one of the owners is a friend his name is Duamed, the other owners name is Marshall and they know what they're doing) 787-250-3474 You should call before hand to see if they have received saltwater inventory this week.

Finally there's Aquarium Specialties: www.aquariumspecialties.com it is the most beautiful store, with the biggest inventory, if you don't mind that they're extremely pricey. But to go and see, its a nice experience, their aquariums are impressive, its just the prices that are ridiculous!

Well have fun, and I hope you can enjoy some of our island. The Ponce area is the best for food (specially seafood) and historic city tours.

Thank you geris, I will visit them on Sunday.

I know this is off topic, but do you have any suggestions for good restaurants in Ponce and Rincon (staying there Saturday) that are NOT tourist traps?

Grouper,
I know Ponce very well since most of my family lives there. So here are a few sugestions:

If you like seafood (they also have puerto rican cuisine)
- Pito's Seafood (in Las Cucharas Sector, near the beach) 787-841-4977
- Yeyo's Seafood (in Las Cucharas Sector)
- Canda's (in La Playa Sector) 787-843-9223
Other food
- Pizza Heaven (casual, what we call criollo food which is native puerto rican cuisine and you could also have pizza)
- Pichi's Steakhouse and Seafood (in Guayanilla about 15 minutes from Ponce) 787-835-4140
- La Guardarraya (Puerto Rican cuisine) (in Yauco about 20 minutes from Ponce) 787-856-4222
- There's an new Argentinian Restaurant at Isabel street in the center of Town near La Perla Theater, you can ask anybody in the Town Center, I don't remember the name, but its very good and beautiful.
- There's also a good restaurant at the Hotel Meliá in the center of Town

If you can also go to La Guancha which its the peer, great nightlife there, and there are kiosks with typical drinks and finger food. There's dancing and lots of fun.

In Rincon, Im no expert, although its a very laidback town, its a surfer's town.

There are nice hotels in the area with good restaurants:
- There's the Restaurant at The Horned Dorset Primavera (its probably a little pricey but the view is worth it and it has very nice reviews, they serve international and puerto rican cuisine)

- The Lazy Parrot Restaurant (this one its also at a hotel and its nice) 787-823-5654 www.lazyparrot.com

-Tres Palmas Restaurant 787-823-6010 www.trespalmas.com

Well, I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. Have fun :)
