Puffer infection

At this time, my display tank is in hypo for treatment of ick. It is a fowlr, and treatment in the dt was my only option for several reasons (i have another thread on this already).

It has been in hypo for over a week now, and all the fish that survived are looking much better, no sign of ick, except the puffer.

He never seemed effected by the ick, but has stopped eating in the last few days, and this morning he looked terrible, as you can see in these pics:

His eyes are cloudy/puffy and he is discolored. I assume this may be a secondary infection from the ick. I can get him in a qt tonight- what medication may help him?

Any thoughts on what this is and how to treat?

I can't really tell anything from the pics; but if you suspect infection use a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Furan-2. Erythromycin would be another good choice, as this is likely just gram positive. But I haven't used either in conjunction with hypo, so I can't say how mixing the two would work out.

Ok, got a hospital tank set up and dosed with Erythromycin. He looked worse last night, but hopefully he will improve.

The tank is a 10 gallon with an aquaclear with no media, and some pvc. Any other suggestions on treatment?

Well, got home to find the puffer dead. He did look similar to that other thread, but I assume was from the ick or other bacteria, and I just caught it too late. Bummer, he was my first puffer, and my favorite fish.

I have a few few left in the tank, along with the eels. In hypo now, where it will remain for several months. No new fish for a long time until I figure out what is going on.
