Puffer not eating?

Heyy,
i got a new puffer a few days ago and have yet to see it eat,
it has been chillin on a rock for the past 2 days hasn't moved
(still alive) and trying to get it to eat brine shrimp with garlic
and krill with garlic
and hasn't shown any interest
But today it seemed like it was trying to eat but didn't know how?
almost like she thinks her mouth is in between her eyes
and suggestions on how to get it to eat?

dont really know that this will help but it may let you feel at ease. i have had 2 puffers that didnt eat for days, and finally felt comfortable enough to eat. they just sat on the bottom and looked sad, almost crying. one of them decided he liked silicone, and was eating the tank seal, so i got rid of him.

Awe
=( Poor puffers.
i love the fish, i had one when i first started this hobby for about a year but i went to mexico for a few weeks and the person feeding the fish decided to clean the heaters and ended up forgetting to plug them back in and killed off my fish

but this puffer is pretty small and seems to be in good health
and would really like to see her eat =(

Oh and for future refferance this is a big SW no no. Always research your wanted stocks needs before you buy. Guessing in this hobby or going by any one mans opinon just wont do.

Put in a gold fish and see if he eats eat.Or some raw shrimp rubberbanded to some rock.He is a big and messy eater.

Im not sure on the type you have but brine wont do. This site may help.

its actually a porcupine puffer, im not sure they have the same diet
but i have tryed krill as well (as mentioned on that site)
i have also tryed feeding hermit crabs? my old puffer used to eat 10 of them before they would hit the bottom on the tank

It says Omnivore.Or meat and plant eater. You need to try multiple type and find the ones he likes. Try raw crab or clam or shrimp or whatever. I dont know of any live food for SW but like i said try a feeder gold fish.MB he want live food. I mean no disrespect by this but you bought this guy who was most likely caught from the ocean so he deserves the best chance. You came here so you want to do it right. Just come here and ask before you buy your next fish.
I think theres a puffer forum in here it just may take a day or two for response.

Pardon me?
sorry i didn't really mention it but i WILL NOT put anything in my tank or even think about it until i know what's up,
i was just asking about methods on how to get it to eat NOT what to feed it.
Sorry, i might come across strong i just really dislike when people make assumptions,
(Ie, Teachers and principles who just make assumptions that if some one has done something you have to, this has caused allot of problems for me at school trying to to get caught up after being expelled for things i did not do and wouldn't even think about doing)

Once again,
I still find it very disrespect full to make assumptions such as this and then reinforce the assumptions in another post,
Please refer to the my other post.

Sorry i tend to lag on this site alot and miss many responses. As i said im only trying to help as i think your a little disturbed by my response.

First besure your water readings are in shape.
Be sure flow is proper for proper O2 supply . He could stress from lack of O2.
If thats not an issue then just try differant food. Mysis , raw un peeled shrimp, clams , crab all un cooked and even live feeder gold fish. My guess is if doesnt eat from this buffet then theres other trouble from his health or water quality.

They do take some time to settle in. I wouldn't force food at him. He'll eat when he's ready. You may want to leave your lights off for a couple of days also. Good luck with him - they are such a fun fish to have!

I would agree, it's likely stressed from transport. Plus, I have some questions.

How did you acclimate it? How Long?

Other then the Krill and Mysis have you tried anything else?

Do you have access to white shrimp (feeder shrimp)?

If it were my puffer, I would shut off the lighting on the tank for 3 days. When feeding, 15 minutes prior to the actual feeding the lights would go on. Give it a chance to adapt to the lighting. I would try uncooked clams from the deli, shrimp pieces, krill and squid. If it goes through all of these without trying to eat I would try my dangedest to get feeder shrimp. I have had the best success with those.

Something along this line: White Shrimp from Live Aquaria

They are out of stock, but I would try to get it local first then look at online vendors.

good luck.
