My first time asking advice on fish disease and hopefully I can get some help from all of you guys.
I have a puffer with ich. Due to its colorations and dimmed lighting I was not able to notice the white spots until last week (probably about 2-3 weeks after the onset of ich infestations). It got bad and I immediately began hyposalinity. It had cloudy eyes, but not bad since I could still see his eyeballs clearly. However, two days ago it all of a sudden went blind in both eyes. It was bumping into things and stopped eating completely. It's been about a week since hypo started, and its breathing returned to the normal rate (~ 65 times/min).
I started maracyn 2 last night, but I've heard that the effect of maracyn 2 is stronger in hyposalinity. I am not sure if this is true because the freshwater version and saltwater version contains the same dosage (10mg of minocycline per 10 gallons). I plan to do half of the dosage starting the second day. Right after the maracyn 2 was applied, the puffer convulsed for a few min, and then stopped. This morning there has been no improvement.
I am quite worried, not only because it appears blind, but also because it stopped eating. Has anyone had this experience before? I know there are a lot of causes for cloudy eyes, but I cannot pinpoint what the direct cause was in this case. If it's blind from the trophonts feeding on the eyes, then it's a huge coincidence that it went blind in both eyes (I would think it would lose vision in one eye first). I am leaning towards a systemic bacterial infection since it also has a slight case of fin rot. Does anyone who has had this experience had the puffer restore its vision after the cloudy eye disappears?
