puffer

It is na porcapin puffer. I have had him for close to 2 1/2 years. I feed him frozen shrimp snails, he is about 5 1/2 inches long, my tank is 125 gallons but have him confined to about 15 to 20 gallon because I have a reef tank.

HELP!!!! Puffer Problems

HELP!!!! Puffer Problems

I'm also having some problems with my Dog face puffer, he/she is normally very sociable with anyone that comes close to the tank, normally a very aggresive eater and useally swims around all day. As of yesterday he/she hasn't been "normal" at all, not swimming around very much at all; just stays under a rock bridge almost all day. Not eating much, and not coming to the tank when i come to it. I've had it for about a month, it's a new 150 gal. FOWLR tank, just did my first water change yesterday (water from the LFS i bought it from),I feed it brine shrimp & squid (the frozen cubes).
also just a lil background about my tank, in the short month i've had this tank, i've already lost a bursa trigger (which the LFS said it looked like it had some sort of hemorrhage in it's belly) and a yellow tang (the LFS had no explaination for that one). It is a pretty reputable LFS in my town so i don't think thats the problem, they also mentioned that it's not unusal to loose a couple of fish in the begining.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP THE NEWBIE....I'M LOOSING FISH LEFT & RIGHT WITH NO REAL EXPLAINATION.......ANYONE?

You have a 5 1/2" porcupine puffer confined to 15 or 20 gallons and you are asking why he is sick? Are you kidding me????

Do you seriously see nothing wrong with what you are doing?

I hope this is some kind of ridiculous joke...

I would say the tank was probably never cycled and your fish are dying to ammonia poisoning but you really should start your own thread. Please do, it sounds like your fish need some help.

At only a month old, Justin is right, your tank is most likely still cycling. Have you tested for ammonia, nitrites and pH?

My porc grew almost 3" in a little over a year. He is now around 6", and my 90 is to small for him. If I were you I would either let him roam the reef, or give him to someone that can take care of him.
Fwiw, Frozen shrimp isn't that good for him, unless they are whole. Get some clams, mussels, squid from the store to go along with the shrimp.

I have to agree, but it is not normal to lose fish in the beginning. If the tank is set up right, and ready for fish.

And welcome to RC!!!

I have had my water tested three times (once after each fish died and after the water change). and only the nitrates were a lil high (around 40) which i was told is just a lil high for a new FO tank.

All that said, today my puffer seems to be back to "normal", so i'm not sure if it just wasn't feeling well for the last 2 days or what. but thanks for your advise.

also, sorry for not starting my own thread....remember i'm new here....won't happen again.
